Creatine For Health And Longevity
We’ve known for some time now that creatine is much more than a bodybuilding supplement.
Now a recently-published study points to exciting new benefits for health and longevity by supplementing with creatine.
The study investigated the effects of creatine supplementation on the health and longevity of aged mice. The creatine-supplemented mice had an increased life span and performed significantly better in neurobehavioral tests. Creatine supplementation had other benefits for the brain and nervous system as well. In the brains of the creatine-treated mice, there was an anti-oxidant effect and a reduction in the accumulation of the “aging pigment” lipofuscin.
Creatine also seemed to influence the expression of genes that control neuronal growth, neuroprotection, and learning. The authors conclude that since Creatine can improve health and longevity in aging mice, it may be a promising new supplement to promote healthy aging in humans.
