Are There Any Protein Bars That Won’t Melt?

July 28th, 2009

Are you looking for a protein bar that won’t melt if you take it outside this summer?  There are so many varieties of bars to choose from now, and quite a few that aren’t coated in chocolate.  So, if you want a bar that doesn’t turn into a sticky mess when the temperature rises, buy one that is made of nuts and fruit versus chocolate.  They won’t weigh you down like some of the heavier chocolate bars, and many of them taste pretty good!

Peaceworks is a distributor of specialty and all-natural foods which include the KIND Fruit + Nut Bars.  These are all handmade with nuts and fruit and are all natural.  They make flavors like Almond and Apricot, Fruit and Nut Delight, and Macadamia and Apricot.   These bars are unique and delicious!  They taste fresh and are sweetened with real fruit and different types of nuts.  These bars are gluten free, wheat free and dairy free so they are great for people with allergies to a lot of bars.

Clif Bar is a well known brand that has been around since 1992 and also makes many bars without chocolate.  Some of their non-chocolate favorites include the Clif Bar Carrot Cake, Cranberry Apple Cherry, Spiced Pumpkin Pie or the Mojo Bar Honey Roasted Peanut, Mixed Nuts or Mountain Mix.

A new line of bars on the market called Full Bar were created to help you feel fuller faster so you won’t eat as much.  Full Bar makes delicious flavors like Berry Bliss and Cranberry Almond.  Each bar has 180 calories or less but when you eat one with a glass of water 30 minutes before your meal you will feel full and satisfied so you won’t need to order such a large meal.

Two other brands are the Lara Bar or the Soy Joy BarsLara Bar is another great alternative to the traditional chocolate coated bars on the market.  The first batch of these bars came out in 2003 and by 2004 this company had already sold over 1 million bars.  Their flavors include Cherry Pie, Apple Pie, Key Lime Pie, Lemon Bar and the Pistachio.  There are also the new Soy Joy Bars made with whole soy and real fruit.  They have flavors like Mango Cocount, Raisin Almond and Berry.  All sound pretty good, right?

So you don’t have to skip the healthy snacks this summer for fear of finding a big mess instead of a bar in the middle of the day, just look around for some of these great alternatives!

The so-called “protein” bars you reference really aren’t deserving of the name “protein bars”. I have yet to see one of these non-chocolate bars contain greater than a measely 4-10g of protein and yet contain 25g+ in carbs. They are really “carb bars”. Anyone who has looked at the nutrition bar section in a store even once know the brand names above are the main players for bars lacking the coating that melts. Those of us coming to this article were hoping you had assembled a specific list of non-melting REAL PROTEIN bars (20g+ protein). If you could do that, it would be very helpful. Thanks.
