Clinically supported protection for eyes against leading cause of blindness.
9/02/2008 by MarkTfromASH

Details: ! was also surprised to learn that age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is actually the leading cause of blindness in persons of Western European descent (like me) - I always thought it was diabetes. Oxidative damage is thought to be the cause of AMD so theoretically, the right kinds of antioxidants should be able to offer a measure of protective support. Well it turns out that certain antioxidants do. I started taking one softgel daily of this NOW Lutein Esters in the interest of protecting my eyesight well into the future. I can't say I've noticed anything yet, but I don't expect to - that's the nature of protective antioxidants. They're a long-term strategy like changing the oil in your car, neither one is something you do for short term improvements. I'm also taking NOW's fish oil which also protects the eyes. The study I read is here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17962470
