They aren't allowed to say this can lower cholesterol

| Details: Because that would be making a drug claim. However, that is the only reason people buy and use this product. Like any cholesterol approach,it doesnt work for everyone but in my experience it's the best, most straightforward option. For some people, it's the only supplement that has worked. Red Yeast Rice apparently contains small non-pharmaceutical amounts of a compound similar to those in statin drugs prescribed for high cholesterol, so that's why some of the cautions are similar (muscle aches). Keep 2 things in mind if you decide to use RYR. First, you need to get regular cholesterol tests - monthly, bi monthly - to see how it's working since cholesterol has no symptoms. Second, you have to work out the lowest effective dose over the course of several months. The range is about 600-2400 mg per day, so start at 1200, and increase that to 1800, then 2400, if your numbers dont come down. If you do see a response, try going down to 600 mg per day.
