Muscle Milk
Overview
Muscle Milk has been CYTOSPORT's most successful product, earning a wide following among bodybuilders and athletes. Not quite a protein powder, not quite a meal replacement, and not quite a gainer, Muscle Milk combines elements of all three to deliver what CytoSport formulators feel is THE best blend of nutrients to fuel muscle growth.
Muscle Milk derives its name, and its underlying concept, from human milk. Human milk is a complex but precise mixture of proteins and nutrient fats perfectly matched to the way in which humans absorb and use nutrients to fuel tissue growth. By adhering to this model, Muscle Milk has a higher fat content and calorie content than some other muscle-building products. But don't confuse nutritional fats with body fat you may be trying to shed. Fat is a very important nutrient and, as CytoSport explains, the Lean Lipids in Muscle Milk are entirely healthy fats, much more likely to be used as energy by your body than stored as additional body fat. The blend of protein and amino acids in Muscle Milk is patterned after the complex blend of proteins and peptides in human milk. It includes slow-releasing casein, fast-releasing whey isolate with supplemental peptides and amino acids. This is CytoSport's Evo-Pro blend and is specifically formulated to support muscle growth, although it's also good for the immune system and intestinal health. Rounding out the formula is CytoSport's Cyto-Vite vitamin-mineral blend. This provides a modest amount of basic vitamins and minerals, but no so much that you'd need to stop taking your daily multi while using Muscle Milk.
How many times a day should you drink muscle milk? You can use it replace any meal any any time. And everyone who's tired of the same old vanilla, chocolate and strawberry options will appreciate the fact that Muscle Milk is available in over 20 great flavors. If you're trying to pack on some muscle but have hit a plateau, give that protein powder a rest and try some Muscle Milk today.
Muscle Milk
Description from
CYTOSPORT
AMERICA'S FAVORITE PROTEIN DRINK! When MUSCLE MILK was first introduced, CytoSport scientists attempted to emulate one of nature's most anabolic, complete, and balanced foods: human mother's milk. MUSCLE MILK broke the mold, creating a new category of protein supplements while setting a new standard for both taste and performance. As a result, muscle milk has become America's favorite protein drink. But the science of human metabolism is never static; our understanding of its complexity is expanding everyday. Recently the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) published a report that updated America's Nutritional goals. Cytosport scientists have evaluated the report and have updated MUSCLE MILK to keep pace with these new developments. No matter what you ultimate goal may be building muscle mass or sculpting a toned, muscular physique-controlling caloric intake and specific physical activity go hand-in-hand with managing your total weight. When it comes to defining weight control, calories do count. Most Americans need to reduce the number of calories they consume. Since lipids or fats contain approximately twice the caloric energy carbs, minimizing the total fat content in MUSCLE MILK-while maintaining the overall fat-burning benefits of LEANLIPIDS-helps to accomplish this goal.

Muscle Milk
Directions from
CYTOSPORT
Mix two scoops in 10-12 fl. oz. water. Tastes like a real milk shake. BEFORE & DURING WORKOUTS Take MUSCLE MILK one hour prior to workout. For a truly awesome workout, take FAST TWITCH Power Workout Drink Mix before and during your workout.
AFTER WORKOUTS Take MUSCLE MILK within one hour of completing your workout. After workouts, the body is in a catabolic state. MUSCLE MILK helps reverse this muscle breakdown by providing the necessary nutrients for muscle synthesis.
PRIOR TO BEDTIME Sleep is actually a catabolic period. Remember, breakfast means to “break your fast.” During any fast, you break down precious muscle tissue for energy. MUSCLE MILK will help you wake up more anabolic.

Tasty but chunky and not easy to mix at all.
3/13/2010 by Tony5150rN

| Details: I normally use Labrada Lean Body Protein before and after a workout and have been doing so for 3 years now. I tried a pack of Muscle Milk because Allstar Health was nice enough to include a pack in my latest order of Lean Body protein. I was feeling extra drained after todays workout, and wasn't planning on eating a real lunch, so I thought I'd give the Muscle Milk a try in addition to my Labrada shake.
The taste was very good, almost too sweet. I have yet to try a powder supplement with such a decent taste. The consistancy was not bad and it did give me boost of energy that I don't normally get from the Lean Body. On the downside, the consistancy was terrible. When I opened the packet, the powder had clumped together almost like moisture had gotten into the packet. Now normally, I blend my shakes so this wouldn't be a problem, but on occasion when I'm in a hurry, I pour the powder directly into a water bottle and shake it up. The muscle milk powder was so thick and chunky that I was unable to do this. I even tried a kitchen funnel and it clogged the funnel. I ended up using the blender.
I appreciate Allstar Health letting me sample this product.

Natural Vanilla, essentially an overpriced milk substitute
3/11/2010 by layeredsurface

|
| |
| Details: Natural Vanilla tastes about like powdered milk, yet somewhat creamy. The fats it contains are vegetable fats (mostly from inexpensive canola) and are apparently less likely to be converted to fat stores in the body than if you consumed the fats of whole dairy milk. The protein profile is similar to dairy milk (mostly casein).
Fortified with a moderately wide spectrum of nutrients, albeit in small quantities. I purchased this because dairy milk gives me bad stomach aches, yet I wanted something to help maintain blood amino acid levels and glycogen stores during the night. Ultimately this product tastes like powdered milk, contains trace amounts of essential vitamins and minerals relative to a good multiple vitamin, has the protein profile of powered milk, and costs about $1.50 per serving.
Like dairy milk this stuff too results in significant bloating, and even worse, if taken at night it contributes to acid reflux.
Essentially a waste of money, when you consider the high price. Drink non-fat milk, take a good multiple vitamin, and consume good vegetable fats (such as from tree nuts or olive and flax seed oils).

Great Flavor! Don't Abuse!
11/18/2008 by MDK210

| |
| Details: It's been argued that muscle milk is bad becuase of all the fats and what not even though they are the "good" kinds. It's not something you want to replace your protein with even though the calories are equal to that of optimum whey gold standard. I typically use it for the taste which is always awesome. I mix one scoop of the strawberries and creme with two scoops of optimum whey strawberry since their stuff is not as tasty. I use room temperature water though since milk doesn't agree with me and cold water doesn't seem to mix well leading to clumps. Get some but don't over do it and if you do really work out don't just sit on the couch.
