Meshima (Phellinus linteus), literally meaning "Woman's Island", is a mushroom that grows on mulberry trees on an island with the same name located southwest of Japan. Used in traditional Chinese Medicine for a wide array of disorders, recent work has focused on its immune supporting functions. Research demonstrates that Meshima may increase the activity of B cells and T lymphocytes as well as increase cytotoxic activity of NK cells. Many of Meshima's immune related actions show promise and specificity for maintaining healthy breast cells.
