Quercetin with Bromelain Overview

Quercetin and bromelain may seem like an odd combination, a plant flavonoid and a digestive enzyme from pineapple. And because they're unfamiliar to most, this combination is overlooked by many of the very people who could most benefit from it. But NOW Quercetin with Bromelain can be a very effective product for those with problems related to allergies, sinuses, chronic congestion and rhinitis. It's not a drug, but people sometimes refer to quercetin/bromelain combinations as a "natural antihistamine" which is probably the most useful way to think about its main benefit. Quercetin and bromelain can indeed affect the manufacture and release of histamines (chemicals that promote inflammation of mucous membranes in the nose, sinuses and chest) so it's often used by those with chronic allergies, sinusitis, rhinitis or the common cold. The combination works fantastic for some people, moderately well for others and not at all for some people. You need to consistently use Quercetin with Bromelain for a few weeks to assess the benefit. It may be worth trying, though, since it's very inexpensive and has no drowsy side-effects.

Quercetin with Bromelain Description from NOW
Our Quercetin is from a non-citrus source. This makes it quite suitable for persons with allergies, especially to citrus fruits. Bromelain, a pineapple-derived enzyme, is added to enhance the absorption of Quercetin.

This does work. But you need to start taking it before the allergy season starts, and must continue to take every day till the season is over. It is not something you take once in awhile, when your allergy symptoms are acting up.

Stops Cough

I have had a chronic cough for years - absolutely uncontrollable. First dosage of the Quercetin made a difference in slowing the cough. Now after finishing the first bottle, I seldom cough. I would recommend this product to anyone with a chronic cough.

I have spectacular allergies and persistent asthma, as well as chronic sinusitis (even after 2 surgeries to open my sinuses) I call these my "Pac-man" pills because they are large, yellow, and I eat a lot of them. ...As in I have worked up to 19.2 GRAMS of this stuff daily. This sounds like a truly ridiculous amount, right? As soon as I try to cut back, or miss my twice daily dose, my sinuses swell shut and my lungs start spasming. ...So I hope you don't have to take the ridiculous amount I take to achieve the desired effect? However, I noticed no drop in reactivity until my dose was at 3200 milligrams twice daily.

An overlooked natural "anti-inflammatory"

This may seem like an odd pair; one ingredient (quercetin) is a plant flavonol, the other (bromelain) is a digestive enzyme from pineapple. The reason they're paired together is that both have potent anti inflammatory properties, including the ability to inhibit production and release of histamines. Histamines are pro-inflammatory compounds that give rise to allergy type symptoms including rashes, itching, sneezing congestion and headaches. This combination of Quercetin and Bromelain is often referred to as a "natural anti-histamine". It is not a drug of course, and not as strong as antihistamine drugs but neither does it have any side effects. When I use it, I take 3 capsules every three hours, tapering down to 1 capsule every three hours before discontinuing use.
