Athletes who know their stuff nutritionally aren't afraid of carbs. They know that at certain times - immediately post-workout, for example - carbs aren't only 'not' bad, they're a critical component of post-workout nutrition that you need to jump start and sustain the recovery and rebuilding processes. Carbs are necessary to blunt the effects of cortisol and replenish glycogen stores in the liver. That may not sound exciting, but if you're trying to put on lean muscle, you know how hard it is. Every little thing matters and both cortisol and glycogen matter a lot. So that's why the carb content of Optimum Nutrition's After Max is much higher than most proteins or meal replacements - it's a recovery formula intended to be taken at the time when you want carbs, immediately post-workout. After Max' 1:1 protein:carb ratio makes this an especially good post-workout shake for the hard trainer/hard gainer. Unlike many athletes must do now, After Max users do not need to add any carbs, creatine, glutamine or anything else to their protein to make it complete - all that stuff is already in there, and in nice robust potencies, too: 5 g of creatine, 5 g of glutamine, Aminogen enzymes, and 1g of taurine.
Optimum Nutrition knows what it's doing when it comes to protein powders. They set the industry standard for protein a long time ago with their blockbuster 100% Whey Gold Standard shake in 22 flavors, so chances are you're going to like After Max. Remember, you need more than just protein at the end of your session. That's also when you need to reload carbs, creatine, glutamine and more. Cover all the bases in one shake with After Max and max out your results!
THE BIGGER PICTURE OF POST-WORKOUT NUTRITION
If there is a period of time that can make or break a physique it is the post-workout window. In fact, the sixty minutes immediately following a workout carry such an overwhelming importance that many trainers believe if you are not consuming sufficient nutrients following a workout that your training could be causing more harm than good. After Max employs a 1:1 ratio of protein to carbs along with creatine monohydrate, glutamine peptides, and digestive enzymes to create a comprehensive post-workout recovery formula, No more guesstimating on whether you are getting the nutrients your body needs, just mix up a serving of After Max and you can rest assured that your post-workout needs are satisfied.
