PowerBar started in the Berkeley, California kitchen of Olympic marathoner Brian Maxwell. Brian and his wife Jennifer, also a competitive runner and nutritionist, began experimenting with natural ingredients to create an energy bar that would improve their performance. It took years before they were satisfied, but no time at all for news of their nutritious, high-performance snack to spread. Today, every PowerBar product is still based on their original goal.
