Melatonin in lozenge form is best; these are easy to use and effective if you use them consistently

If you are considering trying melatonin lozenges, you should know that melatonin is best used on a consistent nightly basis by people over 40 who have had sleep difficulties for an extended period of time. It’s not something you can use effectively on an occasional basis or something that people under 35 generally need or use. Why lozenges? I have found that the melatonin lozenges work better for me than melatonin capsules or tablets, but this is won’t be true for everyone. Source Natural’s Melatonin Lozenges are the leading brand of melatonin lozenge, and they come in several potencies; 1 mg, 2.5 mg and 5 mg. I used the 2.5 mg peppermint lozenge and found, with some experimentation, that I need 2 of those 5 mg for the best results. If you don’t care for Peppermint, it’s also available in Orange flavor. The product couldn’t be easier to use. Small, white lozenges about the size of a lentil that you are advised to take 30-60 minutes before bedtime. I just leave the bottle on the nightstand so I don’t forget to take them. Determining the best dose is tricky with melatonin – the effective dose varies widely between people, even people the same age. There’s really no way to determine ahead of time what dose of melatonin would be best for you. You have to experiment over the course of a few nights. A good starting point would be to use 1 mg for every decade of life. So a person who is 40 would start with around 4 mg per night (one and a half lozenges) and then increase the dose by about 1mg per night (half a lozenge) as they monitor the results of each dose. Paradoxically, some people respond more to smaller doses than larger doses, so be prepared to use lower and higher doses over the course of a week or two. I wouldn’t go above 10 mg unless directed by a doctor to do so. Most people will get the best results somewhere between .5 mg to 8 mg.
