Copper is a nutritionally essential trace mineral. Copper is involved in growth, development and metabolism throughout life. During infancy copper is critical for the formation of collagen, regulating heart contraction, blood sugar, brain development and immune function, among many other processes. Copper is also a component of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory enzymes. Small, trace amounts of copper can be found in oysters, nuts, seeds, legumes, and the bran and germ of whole grains.

Copper's Health Benefits

While necessary for good health, the diet may not supply enough copper. Supplementing with copper ensures that copper-critical functions are supported. Copper is needed for the proper mineralization of bone tissue which keeps bones strong. Copper is part of the hair and skin pigment melanin, and may help keep skin healthy and hair color vibrant.
