DLPA
DLPA: Information
DLPA, or DL-phenylalanine, is a combination of L-phenylalanine and D-phenylalanine. L-phenylalanine is an essential amino acid found in high protein foods, while D-phenylalanine is a synthetic version of L-phenylalanine manufactured in a laboratory.
DLPA's Health Benefits
DLPA works to help improve mood and relieve pain. L-phenylalanine is associated with elevated levels of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, which may alleviate symptoms of depression, and D-phenylalanine works to block pain signals. Studies have shown that DLPA may be effective in the treatment of depression, especially when combined with over the counter depression fighters such as St. John’s wort or SAM-e. Research shows that DLPA may help those suffering from chronic pain, as well. 1
