Octacosanol
What is Octacosanol?
Octacosanol is a fatty alcohol found in some plant oils, and is not naturally occurring in the human body. A waxy insoluble substance, octacosanol is the main component of policosanol.
Health Benefits
Preliminary research indicates that octacosanol may help improve athletic endurance and strength. Additionally, it is thought that octacosanol may be beneficial to those with Parkinson’s disease. More research is necessary to prove these claims.
Additionally, studies have suggested that policosanol may help lower LDL (unhealthy) cholesterol levels, though it is not known if octacosanol has the same effect.
Usage Indications
Consult your physician. Use as directed.
- Side effects: May cause mild dizziness. Those taking the Parkinson’s medication carbidopa-levodopa may experience additional side effects; consult your physician.
- Indications: Octacosanol has not been proven safe for use in pregnant/nursing women or children.
