Senna is an herb in a large family of flowering plants called Fabaceae which also includes familiar plants like beans, peas and peanuts. The leaves of senna plants are used purgatives, substances able to induce a bowel movement.

Using Senna

Use senna supplements exactly as directed. Senna and other herbal laxatives are for short term use only as laxatives will become habit-forming if used on a continuous basis.

Side-effects and Cautions:

Some users may experience cramping at higher doses. Do not use senna if you have loose bowel movements or diarrhea, or diarrhea that alternates with constipation.
