Siberian eleuthero
What is Siberian eleuthero?
Siberian eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus; formerly known as Siberian Ginseng) is a medicinal root native to China, Japan, Korea and Siberia. Much like its better known cousin Chinese ginseng (Panax ginseng), Siberian eleuthero is said to have immunity boosting and mind sharpening benefits.
Health Benefits
Siberian eleuthero is said to help combat fatigue, boost energy, increase mental clarity, enhance memory and support immunity. One study showed greater blood levels of cells that help ward off infection in those given liquid extract of Siberian eleuthero. The root is also reputed to help relieve symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, and may help slow the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease in its early stages.
Additionally, Siberian eleuthero may possibly help increase fertility in males and females. A promising animal study found the root to help increase levels of the male hormone testosterone, which may help combat impotence should this effect also translate to humans.
Much more research is needed to help further understand the benefits and effects of Siberian eleuthero and to confirm the above claims.
