Wild yam is known botanically as Dioscorea composita. Wild yam is native to North America. Wild yam is used as an herbal supplement and in the pharmaceutical manufacture of some types of hormones.
Wild Yam's Health Benefits
Wild yam is a popular women's reproductive tonic and is also used to support the liver and endocrine system. Wild yam has been used with chaste berry and dandelion as an herbal treatment for morning sickness. Although the pharmaceutical and supplement industry use wild yam as a raw material in the manufacture of some hormone products, the human body is not able to convert wild yam into hormones.
