What is Shiitake Mushroom?
Shiitake mushrooms have been used in traditional medicine for centuries in Japan and China. Shiitake mushroom contains several chemicals beneficial to health and well being.
Shiitake mushrooms contain polysaccharides, lentinan and cortinelin, which are potent compounds that help promote better health. Polysaccharides help to lower cholesterol levels, may help prevent heart disease, and have cancer-fighting properties. Lentinan boosts immune defenses, and cortinelin kills many invading pathogens responsible for disease.
Studies show that shiitake mushroom may help treat hepatitis B, certain cancers (especially stomach cancer) and HIV. More research is needed.
