Easier to take than chewables
Being post-gastric bypass I have to take a LOT of calcium: 2000 mg every morning. And it has to be calcium citrate, not calcium carbonate. That meant either ordering from special companies to get chewables I needed to eat 4 large chewables each day - spending a pretty penny - or choking down 8 HUGE uncoated tablets from Costco. EIGHT. Every day. I dont even have that much room in my new stomach for all those and the water needed to get them down.
As I drink a protein drink every morning anyways, my surgeon tipped me off to this product. I can add one and a half tablespoons to my protien drink and be all set. I even found a 1 1/2 T scoop at Williams-Sonoma. :
Better than pills
It is much more palatable to stir a little calcium citrate into juice and drink it than to swallow the pills, especially when one takes a lot of vitamins and supplements!
Osteopenia??...add this supplement with weight lifting.
Osteopeniapremature bone loss, as a precurser to Osteoperosis runs in my family. At 35 years of age, a DEXA scan did show my bone density was below normal for my age. Add to the fact I have a spinal cord injury and have no movement below my waist, I needed to begin to increase my bone mass by any means without going to a prescription type Calcium.
I began weight lifting and added this supplement. The next year at my annual physical, my bone density had increased. I cannot truely say this supplement is the sole reason for the bone density increase because long term studies have shown weight lifting exercises themselves increase bone mass. However, adding a calcium citrate supplement couldnt hurt, especially in todays world of low nutrient foods. I mix this in with my Whey Protein drink and/or Whey Protein smoothies with frozen organic fruit.
