Borage Seed Oil: Information
Borage seed oil is derived from the seeds of the Borago officinalis or borage plant. Borage Seed Oil is one of the best sources of gamma-linolenic acid, a desirable omega-6 fatty acid - higher than black currant seed oil or evening primrose oil. GLA typically makes up around 24-50% of the oil.
Borage Seed Oil's Health Benefits
The GLA in Borage Seed Oil has inflammation and immune-regulating properties by influencing the production of prostaglandins1; it decreases the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and increases the production of inflammation-resolving prostaglandins.*
*Prostagladins are hormones that work at the local, cellular level. Prostaglandins regulate many cell functions such as inflammation. They were first identified in prostate tissue, from which their name is derived.
