Methionine
What is Methionine?
L-methionine is an essential amino acid used by the body to help build proteins, and to help synthesize s-adenosylmethionine (SAM-e), L-cysteine, glutathione, and taurine. L-methionine also supplies the body with sulfur, which contributes to healthy skin, and strong hair and nails. The body cannot manufacture methionine independently, so it must be obtained through foods such as cheese, eggs, fish, meat and poultry. Methionine is a glycogenic amino acid, meaning that it can be converted to glycogen for energy if need be.
Health Benefits
L-methionine helps to remove toxins from the liver, especially in the in cases of acetaminophen poisoning which can cause liver damage or death.
Methionine may also have antioxidant properties.
Methionine may be helpful in the treatment of endometriosis, but more research is needed.

Use only under the specific advise of a physician, as L-methionine may increase levels of homocysteine, a substance in the body that has been linked to coronary heart disease.
L-methionine is available in caplet, powder, and tablet form.
